MAYA'S ADOPTION JOURNEY

WELCOME TO MY JOURNEY TO BRING MY DAUGHTER, MAYA GRACE HOME FROM GUATEMALA. DURING THIS JOURNEY I HAVE STUMBLED OVER MANY MOUNTAINS ONLY TO BUILD MY FAITH. THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF THE HARDEST JOURNEY'S OF MY LIFE AND IT HAS THE GREATEST PRIZE AT THE END. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THEM TO PLACE MY DAUGHTER IN MY ARMS FOREVER. MY DREAMS WILL THEN BE REALITY!!!

STUPID CO-WORKERS!!!

SINCE I STARTED THIS ADOPTION AND ACCEPTED THE REFERRAL FOR MAYA, A FEW OF MY CO-WORKERS HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT "IF" YOUR BABY COMES HOME WE WILL GIVE YOU A SHOWER AND HUGE PARTY. WELL, I HAVE HEARD ENOUGH OF THIS. THE WORD IS NOT "IF", IT IS "WHEN". THEY JUST DON'T GET. I KNOW THEY DON'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THE ADOPTION PROCESS. I HAVE BEEN IN IT FOR OVER 2 YEARS AND I AM STILL CLUELESS. I HAVE EXPLAINED IT IN SIMPLE TERMS TO THESE IDIOTS BUT NOTHING SINKS IN. WE HAVE ANOTHER CO-WORKER (SHE IS TOO SWEET) THAT IS PREGNANT AND DUE IN JULY. WELL, THEY DIDN'T THINK TWICE ABOUT GIVING HER A BABY SHOWER. I GUESS BECAUSE HER BELLY IS GROWING, THEY THINK HER BABY IS A SURE THING. HOWEVER, THEY DID REMIND ME "IF" MAYA EVER COMES HOME THEY WILL DO THE SAME FOR ME. I TOLD THEM THAT WE WERE BOTH PREGNANT JUST IN DIFFERENT WAYS AND THAT MY DAUGHTER WOULD BE COMING HOME. I ALSO TOLD THEM THAT I DIDN'T WANT THEM TO GIVE ME A SHOWER. ME AND MAYA WOULD BE JUST FIE WITHOUT THEIR BABY SHOWER. I KNOW THAT I PROBABLY DIDN'T HANDLE THIS IN THE RIGHT WAY BUT I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE BEING SO NEGATIVE ABOUT MY DAUGHTER. THANK GOD I ONLY HAVE 21 MORE SHIFTS WITH THESE IDIOTS!!!

    Ginger-
I can echo your thoughts on this one! My co-workers gave me a shower last year before I went to visit Anslie. Well, you know that story... People keep asking me when am I going to get the baby! I wish that it were a simple answer! My church friends have stopped telling me to let them know when I want a shower. I am thinking that as soon as we get out of PGN, it would be a great time for just such a thing!

You are in my thoughts and prayers!
    Hugs!
    Karen

Oh sweetie, I get it. I know there will not even be a card from people here, they just don't get it, unless you adopt, for some reason I just don't think people do, but I wish they would try!!!

Are you leaving your job in 21 days?

It is so hard to hear their comments. I think you were fine in how you handled it. They need to hear it sometime and who else but from you! Maybe they will be more sensitive the next adoption!

I'm sorry your co-workers are so insensitive to your adoption and the fact that your daughter is coming home! I want someone to give me a shower for Eloisa but as of yet not a single person has mentioned it...I think because like your co-workers they don't think of her as my daughter and want to make sure we are really going to bring this sweet baby home. It's hard.

It is so hard for people not in the process to understand but that is not excuse for being stupid. You are so right it is not if it is certainly when...
Hope to see you in GC..

Some people (most people) do not understand the adoption process at all. I have already found I get tired of trying to educate and not get irritated by their insensitivities. I honestly don't think most of them intend to hurt us, but they do. I am sorry you have to put up with them. Just keep your eye on the goal of getting Maya home.

They just don't get it. They want to do something, but don't know when or how, their efforts are misguided at best. Ignore them. They won't ever truly understand. But we do and we are going to PARTY for Maya and all her glory!!!!

I am a single mother with a daughter from Guatemala. I brought her home on August 21st, 2007. I am loving every second of motherhood. Maya is the love of my life. I can't imagine life without her. I thank God everyday that she is home in my arms.
