TAKE MY ADVICE!!!

I KNOW SOME OF MY BLOGGER PALS ARE PLANNING A VISIT TRIP. SOME OF THEM ARE NOT SURE WHERE THEY WILL STAY. I HAVE A BIT OF ADVICE. DON'T STAY AT THE CROWNE PLAZA. THIS IS WHERE I STAYED ON MY LAST VISIT. THE HOTEL IS VERY OLD. IT LOOKS NICE FROM THE OUTSIDE AND IN THE LOBBY. HOWEVER, THE ROOMS ARE A DIFFERENT STORY. I HAD BOOKED A 2 ROOM WITH A KING BED AND REQUESTED A CRIB WITH MY RESERVATIONS. WHEN I ARRIVED, I WAS PUT IN A VERY SMALL CORNER ROOM WITH A KING BED AND NO CRIB. IT TOOK 2 DAYS TO GET A CRIB. THE FOOD WAS JUST NASTY!! MOST OF IT I COULDN'T EVEN TELL WHAT IT WAS. I DID ORDER AN ALL AMERICAN HAMBURGER TWICE TO BE BROUGHT TO MY ROOM. GUESS WHAT??? IT TO OVER 2 HOURS TO GET IT. THE ONLY FRIENDLY STAFF WAS THE HOUSEKEEPERS. NOBODY SPOKE ENGLISH. WHEN MY FOSTER FAMILY CAME FOR MAYA, MY FACILITATOR COULDN'T BE THERE, SO I COULD GET NOBODY TO TRANSLATE FOR US. THEY HAD NOTHING THAT YOU NEED FOR A BABY. THERE IS NO BABY ROOM AND NO ROOM IN THE LOBBY TO JUST SIT. I WAS SO THANKFUL THAT THERE WAS A SMALL PARK ACROSS FROM THE HOTEL. WE HAD PERMISSION TO LEAVE THE HOTEL. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO MY DOG. I DON'T EVEN HAVE A DOG. I HAVE ALSO STAYED AT THE GRAND TIKAL. IT WAS OKAY. HOWEVER, IN MY OPINION, THE WESTIN ROCKS!!!

I haven't stayed anywhere else, but I'll also give a thumbs up to the Westin. Lots of places to hang out with the baby.

I didn't stay at the Westin, but visited it! It is gorgeous though!! They do have their pool working. I loved the Marriott, they were VERY accomodating! Anything I needed, I had it within 5 min.! Pronto!!! Unfortunately if you are into pools, the Marriotts is out of order until April!

We stayed at the Marriot for our visit. and LOVED it. We were told we had to stay at the Crowne Plaza for pick up, as there were many families there, as well as one of the agency directors. And our agency director said that without a doubt she will NEVER stay there again. LOTS of problems. Phone calls not getting sent to her room, and this was from a SPANISH SPEAKING PERSON!! And when she did get the message 2 HOURS LATER, at 11PM, she had to leave the room to make the call as she had not set up to make calls from her room.

The food was OK on our trip but the marriot was MUCH better. And the wait staff was MUCH nicer than anyone else there. And as far as gift shops, PLEASE...that was a joke.

SO I am with you the CROWNE PLAZA SUCKS!!!!

I love the Westin. Our agency only allows you to go there (or the Biltmore next door), and I have to admit I would have liked a change of pace and go to the Marriott, but the Westin feels like home now.

Glad you gave everyone else a heads up!

Thanks for the advice. I have stayed at Crowne Plazas other places in the world and have always enjoyed it. My agency has everyone stay at the Marriott. I'm glad to hear it is getting some good reviews.

Uh...ok...we LOVED the Crowne!! I'm not kidding, we did! The room was wonderful (and VERY clean), the staff went way above and beyond, and the food was terrific. Are you sure you were at the Crowne???? (Kidding with that last comment, but seriously we LOVED it!!) Maybe you were just there at a bad time for them?? We seriously loved it WAY more than the Marriott. :D

Sorry Dawn, I must have been there at the wrong time. The entire week was a total nightmare. I only found about 2 nice people. The food was sooooo nasty. Wish I had been there when you were.

I have to agree with you. I was so not impressed with the Crowne. There were ants in the room that got in to my clothes-- yuck.. But we at least had good food and thank goodness for the computers. I was so much happier at the Marriot. Never got a chance to stay anywhere else....

The Marriott was GREAT. Everyone spoke English and everyone was friendly. I have heard the Grand Tikal was great too.
